In recent decades, the West has undergone a shift in eating patterns from low-fat, high-carbohydrate to a diet which is completely the opposite – a factor which not only impacts your overall health, but also your gut microbiome. By cutting out the fat in processed foods, more sugar was added to enhance the flavour. Your gut is home to trillions of microorganisms including bacteria, which make up a unique ecosystem called your gut microbiome. For your gut microbes to thrive, they need complex carbs for fuel. Dietary fats are the ones you eat, and there are several types, some are good for you, and others bad. In this case, you are not what you eat. Dietary fats make up one of the three macronutrients the others are carbohydrates and proteins. Fats are found in both plants and animals.
Some people have tried to differentiate between healthy fat and unhealthy fat. However the tide is starting to turn. The Ketogenic Diet is picking up steam. Is this the way to go? Wild animals use natural instincts and eat what they are designed to eat without anyone telling them what is good or bad. A- Cows that eat grass B — Gorillas that eat leaves from about different varieties of plants C- Lions that eat warm-blooded animals like antelopes and zebras D — Humans. Cows and other grazing animals are called ruminants. They eat roughage, grasses, and shrubs made of a lot of cellulose. Ruminants are foregut digesters which mean, they have bacteria in the stomach s that ferment fiber to produce short chain fatty-acids, saturated fat. This changes the whole picture for the gorilla. As a side note — All herbivores use one or the other of these methods of getting energy from what looks like an energy deficient food source in the form of low calorie plants. Wild animals figure out what to eat with their natural instincts.
Losing weight sometimes takes experimentation. If you give a diet your best shot and it doesn’t work long term, maybe it wasn’t the right one for you, your metabolism, or your situation. Genes, family, your environment — even your friends — influence how, why, what, and how much you eat, so don’t get too discouraged or beat yourself up because a diet that “worked for everybody” didn’t pay off for you. Try another, keeping in mind that almost any diet will help you shed pounds — at least for a short time. Once the main strategy for losing weight, low-fat diets are now less popular. Since fat contains nine calories per gram while carbohydrates contain four, you could theoretically eat more without taking in more calories by cutting back on fatty foods and eating more that are full of carbohydrates, especially water-rich fruits and vegetables.
